KILLEEN, TX, February 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ken L. Wilkerson has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Wilkerson represents the City of Killeen, Texas, as a councilor-at-large. Elected to his position in 2020, he received the highest total vote count for council members at-large in the history of the city. As part of his commitments to public service, Mr. Wilkerson is responsible for creating a clear vision for the future of the over 150,000 people residing there.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Wilkerson is most proud to have introduced and championed legislation that permitted Killeen residents to use a data-driven approach to address various issues regarding crime. Assisted by Texas A&M University - Central Texas, the research will lead to solutions for various issues. Additionally, Mr. Wilkerson was diligent in his response to the COVID-19 pandemic, during which time he supported business leaders who were faced with disruptions to their livelihood. Furthermore, in 2021, he was instrumental in aiding in the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 by engaging several volunteers to assist those that were left without electricity and water supply, greatly reducing life-threating situations from affecting the community.
Having drawn inspiration from the example of his father, a former politician who also retired from the military, Mr. Wilkerson entered politics to create a bigger impact in the lives of others. He was also greatly influenced by his near three decades of military service, which taught him the value of seeing the need for strong, fair and honest leadership for everyone. Furthermore, Mr. Wilkerson is indebted to his wife for her ongoing support, who also served for more than two decades in the military. Looking forward to continued success in politics and public service, he is equally excited for the future of Killeen.
Mr. Wilkerson formerly worked as an educator and coach at Copperas Cove Independent School District in Texas during 2017. He is also the former owner of Apex Fun Run - Austin/Killeen/Waco, a franchise based in Phoenix, Arizona, which hosted two-week programs that provided students with character education in leadership and fitness. The organization notably raised funds to foster these programs for primary schools throughout Austin, Waco and Killeen, garnering over $700,000 in revenue during its first year of operation. Mr. Wilkerson maintained the business from 2015 to 2016 before selling it to spend more time with his wife and two sons.
Prior to his work as a civilian, Mr. Wilkerson served in the U.S. Army between 1988 and 2015. During the length of his service, he was deployed numerous times, including in Afghanistan, where he served as a senior advisor for logistics. In this capacity, Mr. Wilkerson led 14 logistics experts in establishing the most efficient logistic hub in the country within just one year.
As an influential leader in his local community, Mr. Wilkerson serves on the board of directors for Killeen Creators, an organization that aims to assist the homeless population of North Killeen. He has also contributed his time by helping to raise $50,000 toward annual scholarships for the Killeen youth and recently sponsored Clear Star, a quarterly event that recognizes individuals for their contributions to the community. Furthermore, Mr. Wilkerson is an active partner of the Liberty Christian Center.
Highly educated, Mr. Wilkerson earned a bachelor's degree in health sciences at Campbell University, a master's degree in management and leadership at Webster University, and a Master of Business Administration at Texas A&M University - Central Texas. He also holds a project management training certificate from Villanova University. Professionally, he is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Kappa Alpha Psi. As a veteran of the U.S. military, Mr. Wilkerson is a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Wilkerson was recognized twice in 2021 as one of the leading municipal leaders by Rising Lone Stars in Texas and received the Polemarch Award for Contributions Efforts and Energy. For his service in the military, he was decorated by the U.S. Army with two Bronze Stars, Expert Field Medical Badge, Senior Parachutist Wings, Meritorious Service Medal, Russian Jump Wings.
