HOUSTON, TX, February 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lindsay Reed Townsend has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Townsend earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Baylor University in 2006; she was admitted to the Dean's List in 2004. She went on to attain a Master of Arts in Art History from Richmond, The American International University in London in 2007. Additionally, she is certified to teach art (EC-12).
Ms. Townsend began her career as a substitute teacher in 2007. After three years, she served as an adjunct professor of art history at Houston Community College in 2011. Since 2013, she has served as a high school photography and digital art and media teacher for Cy-Fair Independent School District and began building and developing the digital art and media program. In the summer of 2020, she served as a curriculum writer for Cypress Fairbanks ISD where she worked with a group of teachers picked by the district to translate their curriculum from fact to face to digital/virtual format while they coped with the ongoing pandemic. Ms. Townsend is also a freelance artist, photographer, photograph restorer, archivist, and graphic designer who takes commissions and produces artwork.
In her present role as an art educator, Ms. Townsend teaches basic and advanced classes in digital art and basic photography. She encourages her students to pursue independent studies of their interests and brings in experimental projects for them to explore. Many of her digital art and photography students have gone on to win awards on the regional, state, and national levels. As part of her dedication to her field, she is a member of the Texas Art Education Association, National Art Education Association, Association of Texas Photography Instructors, and The Junior League of Houston. She also gives back to her community as a co-sponsor for the National Art Honor Society.
In recognition for her expertise, Ms. Townsend was honored with three awards in 2006. She won the Best in Show Award and the Gold Award from the Waco Advertising Federation and was ranked second in the Western Region for Photography by the Creative Convocation. She was also quoted in a blog titled "The Next Book on the Shelf," which discussed photojournalistic responsibility in creating a visual narrative in 2012. The same year, she presented a paper, "CASETA (The Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art): A Decade of Contributions to Texas Art History" at CASETA's annual symposium. She has participated in shows, exhibitions and contests with the Texas Art Education Association, the Center for Hearing and Speech, CFISD, Bosque Gallery, and Lone Star College. She received the Allbritton Art Fellowship (2004-2005).
Ms. Townsend was inspired to pursue art by her parents, who are art lovers themselves. Understanding that there is a lack of professional and experienced art teachers in the United States, she sought to fulfill an unmet need for young students. Ms. Townsend credits her success as a teacher to the support she has received from her husband, as well as her students, whom she finds amazing and inspiring.
