Ever since she was a child, Dr. Garman has loved working with animals and knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. In 2002, she graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Summa Cum Laude, before earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Summa Cum Laude, from Texas A&M University. Upon her commencement from veterinary medical school, Dr. Garman joined the U.S. Army, for which she served as an officer-in-charge, food production auditor, operations officer, attending veterinarian and chief of clinical veterinary services over the course of seven years.
Following her military service, Dr. Garman worked as a relief clinical veterinarian for the National Marine Mammal Foundation and as an independent contract veterinarian with VETCO and Paws4Shots and More. With plans to return to focused small animal medicine, she went on to complete a rotating internship with VCA California Veterinary Specialists. Drawing on her considerable expertise, she currently excels as a veterinarian with Del Mar Heights Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Garman has also presented at several conferences around the country and co-authored two publications and several presentations focusing on dolphins and sea lions.
In order to remain aware of ongoing changes in the field, Dr. Garman is affiliated with the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association and the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association. For her outstanding body of work, she received a Defense Meritorious Service Medal through the U.S. Army, as well as several other accolades through the U.S. Army and Texas A&M University. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is incredibly proud of her time in the military as well as with the Navy Marine Mammal Program, where she had the honor of caring for the U.S. Navy's dolphins and sea lions. Looking toward the future, Dr. Garman aims to return to Texas, become more involved in her community and continue to grow as a veterinarian.
