As a young man, Mr. Averrett distinguished himself as a mathematics and science enthusiast. When it came time to pursue a college education, he resolved to study engineering. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in 1994, he received a Master of Business Administration degree from Auburn University at Montgomery three years later. During the early stages of his career, Mr. Averrett gained valuable expertise in the field as the founding owner of a consultancy.
Drawing on years of practiced expertise, Mr. Averrett excels today as Manager of the Electrical Engineering Department for Goodwyn Mills & Cawood, where he also serves as Executive Vice President. Throughout the course of his career, he has expanded his expertise in the Electrical field and obtained Professional licensure in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, North and South Carolina, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and Virginia. Additionally, Mr. Averrett is a LEED Accredited Professional licensed through the U.S. Green Building Council.
Outside of his work, Mr. Averrett currently contributes as Vice President of the Board of Directors for MAX Credit Union, Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Alabama Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and as a Board Member for the Alabama Energy and Residential Codes Board. In previous years, he philanthropically served as the President of the Family Sunshine Center as well as President of the Arthritis Regional Council. For his professional excellence, he has been honored with the Best of the Best Award for the United States from Engineering News-Record and remains affiliated with numerous Professional organizations including the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Mechanical Electrical Contractors Association (MECA), Electric Cities of Alabama (ECA), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the Construction Management Association of Alabama (CMA). In a career that has been filled with highlights, he is most proud to have worked as the Electrical Engineer of record for the recently constructed NASA test stands, which are used to test rockets for missions to Mars, and to have launched the Electrical department at Goodwyn Mills & Cawood. Looking toward the future, Mr. Averrett intends to mentor the next generation of Electrical Engineering professionals and ensure that they too will protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
