It was financed by forfeiture funds from previous criminal cases, to include large narcotics-related investigations. Battling the opioid epidemic in Lee County is among his major initiatives.
Sheriff Marceno has dedicated resources and manpower to expand his Narcotics Unit, which has proven successful as the team has received the 2021 Region V Unit of the Year Award from the Florida Narcotic Officers' Association. Deputy Chance continues to serve as an ambassador of good will for the citizens of Lee County. Sheriff Marceno notes that his county currently has the second lowest crime rate among all 67 counties throughout the state of Florida and is projected to rank number one for 2021. All of these initiatives contribute to the decrease in Lee County's crime rate.
