She obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the National University of Cuyo School of Medicine in Argentina and completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Dr. Alvarez began garnering experience in her field with a fellowship in forensic pathology at the Dade County Medical Examiner's Office.
In 1986, Dr. Alvarez earned a medical license. For over 20 years, she served as a professor at the University of Puerto Rico. Moreover, she found success as a forensic pathologist and medical review officer at the Institute of Forensic Sciences of Puerto Rico for nearly 35 years. An expert in her field, she has been recruited to speak and present at numerous conventions, including the Convention for the Medical Doctors in Puerto Rico. Likewise, Dr. Alvarez has written many publications in the on the topics of suicide, intoxication, drug abuse and COVID-19.
A trusted member of her field, Dr. Alvarez has been called upon as a board member for the Forensic Institute of Sciences and several committees and departments at the University of Puerto Rico. Though she has accomplished much throughout her career, she credits the highlight of her career as having earned recognition as an outstanding forensic pathologist of Puerto Rico by the Governor of Puerto Rico in 2017. Dr. Alvarez attributes her success to her consistency and her passion for her work.
