Dr. Crumpacker holds a medical license in the state of Massachusetts and has been certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Since 1996, Dr. Crumpacker has found success as a senior physician in the division of infectious diseases at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School, at which he has also acted as a professor since 1993. With expertise in internal medicine, diagnosis and treatment of cross-system illnesses that may affect multiple organic systems, herpes virology, infectious diseases and antiviral agents, he has made significant strides in the medical field.
From 1985 to 1996, Dr. Crumpacker worked as the director of research on the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), having helped the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center become the leader of Boston hospitals in the number of patients enrolled in clinical trials for antiviral therapy for HIV. Notably, in 1996, at the International AIDs Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, immensely impactful results of a study that he contributed to were presented, revealing a revolutionary treatment for HIV. A trusted voice in his field, Dr. Crumpacker has been invited to lecture numerous times in areas all over the world, and has contributed hundreds of articles to professional journals.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Crumpacker has been called upon to serve as a professor and education consultant. Since 1994, he has performed duties as the course director of the mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis in the health science and technology program of Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For his inimitable work, he was presented with both the Irving London Outstanding Teaching Award and the Special Faculty Prize for Excellence in Teaching from Harvard Medical School in 2021. Likewise, Dr. Crumpacker has been the recipient of the Governors Recognition Award for AIDS Research, an award for herpes research from the American Society for Microbiology and numerous research grants.
Aside from his primary vocational pursuits, Dr. Crumpacker has volunteered for the Democratic Party and for the Medical Committee for Human Rights. He attributes his success to his devotion to developing treatments and therapies that can help improve human health. As a course director in microbiology, he enjoys interacting with his students and plans to continue to do so in the future. Additionally, Dr. Crumpacker hopes to develop a new therapy for human cytomegalovirus infection on behalf of a pharmaceutical company.
