Early in life, Dr. Albrecht cultivated an affinity for both the arts and intellectual pursuits. She initially sought a formal education at the University of California Los Angeles, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in art history. Thereafter, Dr. Albrecht earned a Master of Arts in art history from American University and a Doctor of Philosophy in philosophy and aesthetics from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts.
Dr. Albrecht has always had a passion for helping students find their path. From 1991 to 2014, she worked as the visual resources curator for American University, during which time she served as a board member and the president of the Visual Resources Association for several years. Upon retiring from the university, she accepted a position as an art history instructor at Northern Virginia Community College. Since 2017, Dr. Albrecht has taught and advised doctoral students at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts.
Dr. Albrecht holds a National Advisory Board position for the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC and also serves on the San Diego board of ARCS, a national organization that supports students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Dr. Albrecht currently serves, by Presidential appointment, on the National Council for the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Well regarded in her field, Dr. Albrecht has been featured in the book, "How Women Lead." Moreover, her own book "The Machine Anxieties of Steampunk: Contemporary Philosophy, Victorian Aesthetics, and the Future," was published by Bloomsbury Press in 2021.
