Dr. Montales earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry in 2002. She subsequently attained a Doctor of Medicine at the University of the Philippines in 2009 and went on to undertake a postdoctoral fellowship in breast cancer research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2010 to 2015. Dr. Montales completed family medicine residency in 2019 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
An expert in family medicine, Dr. Montales began her career as a physician in the Philippines in 2009. She came to the Unites States initially with a J1 Visa, she obtained her green card or permanent resident card through a national interest waiver. During her family medicine residency, she was able to work or pick up extra shifts as ED physician to help small community ER hospitals. She also worked in an urgent care setting. After completing her family medicine residency, she started working as a full time hospitalist at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs in Arkansas. She also tried to help in small hospitals in northern and the rest of southern Arkansas by working part time or as needed, In her present role as a family medicine physician, she cares for a broad range of patients, from newborns to the elderly, performing rounds, checking charts and assessing status. As part of her dedication to her field, Dr. Montales serves as a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Arkansas Group of Family Physicians, American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and the Filipino American Association.
In addition to her main career, Dr. Montales served as a representative for the University of Arkansas on behalf of the American Medical Association in 2019 and worked as a professor of chemistry while living in the Philippines. She is also a conference participant for the Endocrine Society. Long dedicated to contributing to her community, she is a volunteer physician for the Filipino American Association and routinely undertakes medical missions to the Philippines. In recognition of her expert research, Dr. Montales has been honored on three occasions with an Outstanding Abstract Award from the Endocrine Society.
Dr. Montales became involved in her profession out of a passion for helping others, and prides herself on maintaining communication with her patients. She cultivated an interest in family medicine due to the continuity of care involved, as well as the broad spectrum of knowledge needed in the field, while still being able to practice emergency medicine. Looking toward the future, Dr. Montales plans to become a primary care physician and devote more time to interacting with her patients.
