Dr. Jones initially earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Alabama State University in 2002 and a Master of Science in criminal justice/legal studies from Auburn University at Montgomery in 2004. He subsequently earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Howard University in 2006, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Work from Morgan State University in 2014, and a post-graduate certificate in gerontology from the University of Southern California. Furthermore, Dr. Jones is board-certified in clinical social work with the American Board of Clinical Social Work. He is also a state board-approved clinical social work internship supervisor.
An expert in gerontology and LGBTQ+ populations, Dr. Jones has excelled as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). He began his career as a social service case manager in 2002 prior to shifting his career towards social work. Notably, Dr. Jones completed research in aging and HIV/AIDS issues among vulnerable and diverse LGBTQ+ populations.
Dr. Jones has also served as an adjunct professor for several higher education/collegiate institutions located in Maryland, Nevada, Minnesota, and Texas. He currently teaches advanced-level psychopathology/clinical practice, generalist social work practice, geriatric/gerontological social work practice, social welfare policy, and advanced social work practice/theory courses.
In his present clinical and administrative roles, Dr. Jones provides healthcare social work, care management/policy, mental/behavioral health assessment/evaluation, and individualized psychotherapy, working with LGBTQ+ populations, military veterans, spinal cord injured patients, and geriatric patient populations. He additionally provides education and training with a focus on gerontology in the community. In recognition for his expertise, Dr. Jones was honored with a 50 Under 50 Class Award from his undergraduate alma mater, Alabama State University, in 2017.
