MONROE, MI, February 18, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ralph P. Lieto has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After earning a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan, Mr. Lieto became involved with a project in completion of a master's degree in nuclear engineering through his alma mater that piqued his interest in pursuing work in the field in the long term. Upon graduation, he was accepted into the radiological physics residency at Henry Ford Hospital. A seasoned expert in nuclear medicine and medical radiation safety, Mr. Lieto excelled for over 40 years, serving as a medical physicist and radiation safety officer for Henry Ford Hospital System and for St. Joseph Mercy Health System, where he worked for the past 15 years before his retirement. As radiation safety officer, he had daily responsibility for the areas using radioactive materials and radiation machines for diagnosis, therapy, and research.
In 2021, Mr. Lieto notably was elected president of the Michigan Radiological Society (MRS). He is incredibly proud of becoming the first non-physician president of the Michigan Radiological Society in their 100-year history. He is additionally active as an elected Fellow of the American College of Radiology. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lieto was appointed as the nuclear medicine physicist member of the Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine. His professional teaching experience included nuclear medicine and radiology technologists, radiology residents, and an adjunct appointment in the medical physics program at Wayne State Medical School. He was a reviewer for the journals Radiology and Health Physics and has made numerous presentations at national meetings.
In light of his professional achievements, Mr. Lieto was elected a Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, where he has served on its board, chaired several of its committees, and appointed liaison to other professional organizations.
Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of his loving family, including his wife of nearly 50 years, three wonderful children, and five amazing grandchildren. Looking toward the future, Mr. Lieto intends to dedicate more time to his grandchildren, traveling and remaining involved with the Michigan Radiological Society and the American College of Radiology.
