Prior to pursuing his education, Mr. Thomas worked as an OPS analyst for the Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1991 to 1996. Following this period, he served as a computer operator for ABN AMRO Bank N.V. in 1999 and for Abbott Laboratories in 2003. He continued his career path in 2006 as a data migration specialist for JPMorgan Chase and as the SES director for development at the Princeton Review. Mr. Thomas' last position was as a computer support technician, which he ended in 2008 to pursue a career as a counselor.
Mr. Thomas earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in computer network systems from Robert Morris University in 2000 and went on to attain a Master of Arts in instructional leadership from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in 2006. He subsequently earned a Master of Arts in community counseling from the same institution in 2010. Well qualified in his field, he has been licensed as a clinical professional counselor and a behavioral health clinician. He is also a certified clinical trauma professional, clinical mental health counselor, anger management specialist and alcohol counselor.
Certified in Tricare and crisis prevention intervention, Mr. Thomas began his counseling career as an intern therapist for Illinois Mentor in 2009. After a year, he became a MISA counselor for Haymarket Center in 2012, during which time he also started one of his current positions as a licensed clinical professional counselor for Sepia Consultations LLC. In 2013, he worked as a licensed behavioral health clinician for Presence Health. Since 2017, he has also worked as a clinical therapist for the Chicago Department of Public Health. In his present roles, Mr. Thomas provides various counseling and behavioral therapeutic services on behalf of the public, especially those who cannot afford expensive insurance.
As part of his dedication to his field, Mr. Thomas maintains his involvement with the National Board for Certified Counselors, the International Association of Trauma Professionals and the American Trauma Association. He is also a fellow with the National Association for Anger Management. In accounting for his success, he credits the diversity of his experiences, which has allowed him to adapt to different work environments while developing his skills. During the course of his childhood, Mr. Thomas was exposed to a great deal of violence and trauma, which inspired him to dedicate his career toward helping others achieve stability in their lives.
