After earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Donetsk National University, Dr. Marichev obtained a Master of Science in organic chemistry from the same academic institution. Subsequently, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry from The L. M. Litvinenko Institute of Physical Organic and Coal Chemistry, part of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in 2013 where he also served as a junior researcher between 2011 and 2013. Dr. Marichev continued his academic career in the United States and over the years gained valuable expertise in the field as a postdoctoral research associate at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Dr. Marichev currently excels as an assistant professor at Georgia State University. Due to his outstanding breadth of knowledge, he has contributed to a number of publications, including "Strain-Induced Nucleophilic Ring Opening of Donor-Acceptor Cyclopropenes for Synthesis of Monosubstituted Succinic Acid Derivatives," "Chiral 3-Acylglutaric Acid Derivatives from Strain-Induced Nucleophilic Retro-Claisen Ring-Opening Reactions" and "Synthesis of Chiral Tetrasubstituted Azetidines from Donor-Acceptor Azetines via Asymmetric Copper (I)-Catalyzed Imido-Ylide [3+1]-Cycloaddition with Metallo-Enolcarbenes." In light of his outstanding work, Dr. Marichev has been recognized for his valuable contribution to drug discovery through Eli Lilly and Company.
Throughout his career, Dr. Marichev has been active as an educator, researcher and a peer-reviewer for such journals as Organic Chemistry Frontiers and the Journal of the American Chemical Society, among other roles. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of becoming a professional educator. In the coming years, Dr. Marichev intends to continue in the field of education and find success in a professorial position.
