Since 2020, Dr. Upadhyaya has provided superior care as an attending non-invasive cardiologist with Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital, Milwaukee. His areas of expertise include cardiac imaging, specifically echocardiography, nuclear medicine, and cardiac computerized tomography. Additionally, his clinical specialty is cardio-oncology, a field of cardiology that focuses on the detection, monitoring, and treatment of cardiovascular disease occurring as a side effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Dr. Upadhyaya attributes much of his success to his lifelong support system, which has come in the form of his parents and sister, who always encouraged him to prioritize his education. Additionally, he has benefited richly from the tutelage of several mentors, including Dr. Lissa Sugeng, Dr. Lauren Baldasarre, and Dr. Sarah Hull. Dr. Upadhyaya first became involved in his profession after he departed from his initial interest in veterinary health, after taking biology in high school, whereupon he became interested in cardiology.
Among his career accomplishments, Dr. Upadhyaya is most proud to have initiated the first cardio-oncology program in an Ascension facility in the state of Wisconsin. Likewise, he was gratified to publish a book chapter on cardio-oncology in Pediatric and Adult Palliative Care and Support Oncology, 5e. Looking toward the future, Dr. Upadhyaya hopes to continue building upon his cardio-oncology work and establish a complete program at Ascension.
