Prior to beginning his career, Dr. Mofikoya earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Jos Faculty of Medicine in Nigeria. After immigrating to the United States in 2004, he completed a residency in psychiatry at the St. Louis University School of Medicine and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Fletcher Allen Health Care. Certified in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Mofikoya also holds medical licenses in Vermont and Wisconsin.
Dr. Mofikoya initially worked as a psychiatrist for Saint Agnes Medical Center in 2011 until accepting a position with Mercyland Psychiatry in 2017. In his present role, he treats patients to the age of 18 after an assessment of their conditions. Mercyland Psychiatry utilizes transcranial magnetic stimulation, a new FDA-cleared method of treatment for depression for adult patients who are not responsive to medications. An expert in child and adolescent psychiatry specializing in mood disorders, Dr. Mofikoya is a member of the local chapter of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the African Association of Madison.
In recognition of his expertise, Dr. Mofikoya received an entrepreneurship award from the African Association of Madison. He was also presented with an award from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, which supports local church activities and outreach programs and for which he is a member of the board of trustees. Likewise, Dr. Mofikoya frequently presents speeches on mental health topics.
Dr. Mofikoya was inspired to pursue a career in psychiatry after witnessing the lack of organization and development in his home country of Nigeria. Dr. Mofikoya plans to continue mentoring and guiding the next generation of aspiring medical practitioners, particularly those in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry.
