Always harboring a passion for helping others, Dr. Kao knew from a formative age that she wanted to pursue a career as a physician. Attaining higher education, she first received a bachelor's degree in Biology and English from Vanderbilt University in 1998. Subsequently, she graduated from the Washington and Lee University School of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2001. After serving as an attorney for a number of years, she decided to follow her passion and obtained a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011.
Dr. Kao completed an internship and residency at the Inspira Health Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine. She has been certified in osteopathic internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine since 2014. Recognizing her passion for combining holistic and osteopathic medicine, she began her residency training as a traditional rotating intern at Inspira fka South Jersey Regional Medical Center in Vineland, New Jersey. During this time, she realized that practicing general internal medicine allowed her to be involved in several different specialties.
As such, Dr. Kao garnered expertise as an internal medicine resident at South Jersey Healthcare between 2011 and 2014 and served as an internal medicine physician at Penn Highlights Healthcare-Elk in Saint Mary's, Pennsylvania, from 2014 to 2016. Between 2017 and 2019, she also excelled as an internal medicine physician at WVP The Doctors' Clinic in Salem, Oregon, which later became Salem Health Medical Group-Skyline Village. Since 2020, she has thrived in the same capacity at Salem Health Medical Group-Skyline Village.
In her current role, Dr. Kao provides patient care, performs physical examinations, and identifies health complications. Her areas of expertise are in rheumatology, endocrine and geriatric diseases, neuromuscular medicine, oncology and mental health. As a testament to her success, she was distinguished as a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists in 2020 and was twice recognized as a Top Doctor in Internal Medicine in Oregon in 2020 and 2021.
