With more than six decades of experience in the field of health care to his credit, Dr. Joseph has served as a telemedicine cardiologist since 2013. In this position, he provides consultations regarding electrocardiograms and echocardiograms on a daily basis, as well as consistent updates for referring doctors. Previously, he distinguished himself as an attending physician and electrocardiographer on behalf of Huntington Hospital between 1969 and his partial retirement from the field in 2013. During this time, Dr. Joseph maintained involvement as an assistant professor of clinical cardiology with the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1973 to 1974 and held the position of chief cardiologist at Huntington Hospital throughout much of the 1980s.
Adjacent to his main responsibilities in the field, Dr. Joseph garnered additional expertise in various other roles. To wit, he worked as an adjunct attending cardiologist at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York, from 1993 to 2000, the director of Huntington Cardiac Rehabilitation between 1977 and 1994 and the co-director of the Cardiac Stress Laboratory from 1975 to 1990. Furthermore, throughout the early stages of his professional journey, Dr. Joseph contributed to various New York-based facilities as a cardiology consultant, including Kings Park Hospital and Pilgrim State Hospital. Known for his scholarly output throughout the course of his career, he contributed articles including "Postnephrectomy Renal Arteriovenous Fistula" in the New York State Journal of Medicine in 1969.
Prior to embarking upon his career, Dr. Joseph sought a formal education at Hofstra University, where he attained the President's Prize and graduated with a Bachelor ofArts, magna cum laude, as the valedictorian of his graduating class in 1958. Following this accomplishment, he was accepted to study at the Yale University Medical School, but ultimately attained a Doctor of Medicine from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in 1962. During the course of his education, he is most proud to have been inducted into the Honor Medical Society of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Joseph subsequently undertook an internship at the University ofUtah Hospital from 1962 to 1963, a residency in Chest Medicine at the Bronx Municipal Hospital between 1963 and 1964, a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital from 1966 to 1968 and a fellowship in cardiac catheterization at the Nassau County Medical Center from 1968 to 1969. Well qualified in his field, he became a fellow of the American College of Cardiology in 1975, and was the first Board Certified Cardiologist at Huntington Hospital, having previously garnered board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1969.
Over the span of his academic efforts, Dr. Joseph served his country as a lieutenant in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1966, throughout which time he was overjoyed to indulge in his lifetime love for music by playing with a marching band. Outside of his service with the U.S. Armed Forces, he also stood as a candidate for the Syosset School Board in 2001, worked as the medical director of the Huntington chapter of the YMCA from 1973 to 1977, and sat on the medical advisory board of the Suffolk County Heart Association between 1971 and 1973. Additionally, Dr. Joseph has maintained involvement with several organizations relevant to his interests, such as the Planetary Society and the American Legion, as well as several veteran and political action groups.
Dr. Joseph initially became involved in his profession out of an interest in biology and science while attending high school. Having had rheumatic fever as a child, his path gradually became clear and led him toward specializing in cardiology. In this respect, he is most proud to have served as a preventative influence on behalf of his patients, many of whom have enjoyed greater longevity as a result of his recommendations and treatments. In accounting for his overall success, Dr. Joseph credits the support he received from his family, as well as his devotion in maximizing his potential through education, perseverance, discipline and hard work.
Outside of his vocational circles, Dr. Joseph enjoys jogging, having competed in the New York City Marathon of 1994 at the age of 57. He has also been an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the game of baseball since his youth in 1949. Likewise interested in kayaking, boating, political advocacy and talk radio, Dr. Joseph's true passion has always been his family. He has been married to his wife, Frances, a pediatric nurse, since 1963, and together they are the proud parents of Lauryl, a social worker, James, an attorney, Alisa, a physical therapist, and Jennifer, an interventionist on behalf of the developmentally disabled. His grandchildren, Aspyn, Skylar, Roman, Lillian, Marley, Jada, Roman, Solenna and Ava, have also pursued various worthwhile careers in their own right, including in biology, computer science, psychology and medicine, as well as art and music.
Dr. Joseph was born in in 1937 in New York City to parents Charles and Lillian. A devoted adherent of his Jewish faith, he pays homage to the rest of his family, including his grandparents, Regina, Bernard, Ida and Solomon, his sister, Regina, his brother-in-law, Tommy, his uncles, Arthur and Michael, and his aunts, Sylvia and Jean. Dr. Joseph's cousins include James, Ginny, Kimberly, Lindsay, Saul, Irwin, Harold, Doris and Etta.
