DERBY, VT, March 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fredric Oeschger has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Fredric "Fred" Oeschger's work ethic and perseverance—which has permeated through his decades-long career as an entrepreneur and business owner—began as a young boy growing up in Massachusetts.
Fred's legendary work ethic developed at a very young age. As a boy, he often took it upon himself to find jobs in the neighborhood. He raked leaves, mowed lawns and shoveled snow in order to make a few extra dollars. When he was nine years old, his family moved to Connecticut and Fred found employment as a caddy at the local golf course. At the ripe old age of 10, Fred began working at a local gas station for Roger Morin. His relationship with Roger would continue for decades and help shape his life and career. As time went on, Roger became like a second father to Fred. Under Roger's mentorship, he developed and sharpened his skills as a trouble-shooter and mechanic. A number of years later, when Fred was 18, Roger formed a fuel company and offered Fred employment delivering heating oil from house to house. By that time, Fred had furthered his education by learning the electrical trade at the J.M Wright Technical High School in Stamford, Connecticut, where he earned his high school diploma. Shortly after graduation, he headed to Boston, Massachusetts, where he trained as an oil burner technician. After completing his training, Fred earned his Class A Heating & Cooling license and by the age of 20, he was excelling in his new role and was promoted to Assistant Service Manager. Fred continued successfully in that role for several years, honing his technical and customer service skills.
In 1973, Fred was presented with an opportunity that would be the beginning of a long and successful career in the petroleum products industry. At the age of 26, Fred purchased a local plumbing and heating company and moved his family to Derby, Vermont. Working out of his garage and with two employees, what was then known as "Fred's Plumbing and Heating" has grown into "Fred's Energy," a multi-million-dollar, multi-branch company with more than 100 employees. Fred attributes his growth and success to unequaled customer dedication and numerous strategic acquisitions. Today, Fred's Energy offers heating, cooling and plumbing services and distributes heating oil and liquid propane fuels throughout northern and central Vermont.
In 1987, Fred acquired D & C Transportation, Inc., a small transportation company supplying heating oil and gasoline to retail dealers. Under his leadership, D & C Transportation, Inc. has grown into one of the region's largest transporter and suppliers of wholesale petroleum products. Today, Fred's son Scott manages the day-to-day operations of the Company.
Still going strong at the young age of 75, Fred still holds a Master Plumbing License, a Class A Commercial Driver's License with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement and a has a vast knowledge in related trades. He currently splits his time between Vermont and Florida. Over his career, Fred has developed, owned and operated numerous properties and businesses in New England and Florida, including hotels, conveniences stores, industrial facilities, medical facilities, office facilities, climate-controlled storage facilities and residential dwellings. He also works with a number of younger entrepreneurs, providing mentoring and guidance, having also served on the Gulf Oil Dealer's Board for eight years.
A respected and admired fixture in his community, Fred was honored to be named "Citizen of the Year" by the State of Vermont in recognition of his support and advocacy for a physically challenged employee. In 2018, he was named "Person of Year" by the Newport Daily Express in recognition of his community contributions. Fred has also established "The Oeschger Foundation," a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering Fred's charitable work beyond his time here. Additionally, he has served as a trustee for the Village of Derby, Vermont, as a member of the board of directors of the North Country Chamber of Commerce and on the board of directors and as vice president of the Orleans Country Club. For the past 12 years, Fred has served on the board of directors and various committees of Community National Bank. Fred's current committee assignment is risk management.
Determined to maintain his businesses and legacy through his children and grandchildren, Fred has always reinforced that the keys to success in business and in life are hard work, integrity, determination and dedication. He has always understood that you make your money when you buy, not when you sell. As a testament to this philosophy, Fred's motto has always been "you work 40 hours a week to eat, you work 80 hours a week to live."
