Selina Yvette Ellis Recognized for Serving Her Community

As the owner of S. Ellis Adult Daycare Services, LLC, Selina Ellis prides herself on helping other people and seeing their smiling faces. In fact, that was her motivation to enter the field of elder care, along with her passion and drive to help others. She truly feels that she found her calling.

In 2007, Mrs. Ellis attended nursing school with the goal of becoming a certified nursing assistant, but she also studied home health, which fascinated her. She took the lessons she learned and combined them with her love of helping the elderly to start her own health care facility. This served the double purpose of allowing her to reach her goal, and also enable her to create jobs

Since 2011, Mrs. Ellis, utilizing her expertise in home healthcare, has dedicated herself to expanding her healthcare services. To that end, she created a facility to compliment these services, which was founded in 2015. S. Ellis Adult Daycare Services provides clients with a number of fun and therapeutic daily activities and special events. These include morning exercise, mental stimulation games, discussion groups, karaoke, salon days, and holiday and birthday celebrations, among others. When she started the business, Mrs. Ellis envisioned it as a way for elderly clients to have a second home. It has since blossomed into a thriving business with about 100 employees.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic forced business around the world to change the way they operated, S. Ellis Adult Daycare Services kept its mission the same, with the same grace and patience it has shown to clients since its doors first opened. Additionally, the pandemic prompted the facility to adopt new technology, such as electronics and memory sensory games to help clients improve their quality of life, even under the circumstances.

Mrs. Ellis considers herself truly blessed to be able to provide her clients with a place to go and socialize, and she also feels that each client gives her the inspiration to do better. She is always motivated to learn new things and expand her range of services accordingly. When asked about what drives her, Mrs. Ellis replied that she had guidance from God. Additionally, among her clients is her own mother, which lets clients know that she will always treat them like her own family.

In the next five years, Mrs. Ellis plans to earn a master's degree in nursing and become a nurse practitioner. She also hopes to open up urgent care facilities throughout the Southeast United States. As a first step in this direction, she has two offices in Georgia for home health. She also recently started one in Alabama under Ellis Home Care Services, LLC, and although it has no clients yet, the building and county license have been secured, so good things will be on the horizon in the years to come.

As a testament to her accomplishments and to the high quality of her facility, Mrs. Ellis was presented with a Better Home Healthcare Service recognition by the Conyers Award Program in 2019 and 2020, and she was presented with a Hall of Fame plaque for her distinction in the field. Looking to the future, Mrs. Ellis plans to continue to expand her services and reach more clients through the growth of her company into other areas.
