Prior to joining his practice in Texas, Dr. Ruiz-Rodriguez worked for a year as a general physician in his home country of Venezuela. He also volunteered his time through various Red Cross initiatives while attending medical school. As a researcher in his field, Dr. Ruiz-Rodriguez has written extensively on the topic of kidney transplant and vaccines. He has also been published in various peer-reviewed journals since 2012, including the Journal of Clinical Hypertension and the Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal. Furthermore, he has participated in five poster presentations in Puerto Rico and Los Angeles and has presented publicly throughout the U.S. on various related topics.
To prepare for his career in medicine, Dr. Ruiz-Rodriguez received a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Carabobo in Venezuela in 2013, followed by a residency in internal medicine at the University of Puerto Rico between 2018 and 2020. He is board certified in internal medicine and completed the United States Medical Licensing Examination. He is also certified in advanced cardiovascular life support, electrocardiography interpretation, endotracheal intubation, paracentesis procedure, and thoracocentesis procedure, and via the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. Likewise, Dr. Ruiz-Rodriguez maintains a medical license in the state of Texas and notably speaks English and Spanish.
To support his professional endeavors, Dr. Ruiz-Rodriguez is a member of the American College of Physicians. In 2019, he was recognized by the Golden Heart Association with a Golden Heart Recognition Award. He also received a Third Place Award at the 2021 Internal Medicine Research Symposium by the internal medicine program at the University of Puerto Rico for his medical research in kidney transplants and vaccines. During his school coursework, Dr. Ruiz-Rodriguez received two Academic Achievement Awards and a Best Thesis Award from the faculty of health sciences and the University of Carabobo in 2009. He attributes much of his success in medicine to the ongoing support and encouragement of his family.
