Dr. Alsaka is a nephrologist who has been practicing medicine at the McLeod Regional Medical Center with McLeod Nephrology Associates in Florence for the past 7 years. Specializing in adult internal medicine, he focuses on the care and treatment of the kidneys. Providing patient care and treatment plans to patients, he often deals with complex and difficult cases including kidney transplantation and dialysis. He also treats common problems including, and not limited to, chronic kidney diseases, Nephrolithasis, acute renal failure and polycystic kidney disease.
During his tenure at McLeod Health, Dr. Alsaka has notably served on numerous boards and committees, as the chairman of the Nephrology steering committee, the director of the blood conservation department and the Regional medical director of DaVita kidney care.
McLeod Regional Medical Center is a locally owned non-profit organization that assists those that cannot afford treatment, particularly those without medical insurance. It is among six other hospitals in the McLeod Health network throughout the state of South Carolina.
Proud to represent such a wonderful organization, Dr. Alsaka is always available to his patients. He is known for being humble and compassionate and he is willing to provide care to anyone that needs it, regardless of background and socioeconomic status. In fact, Dr. Alsaka entered the medical field specifically for this reason. In the coming years, he hopes to continue his journey as a nephrologist, providing care and education to as many patients as necessary, while also helping his community of Florence and the Carolinas at large. Dr. Alsaka aims to treat many more patients undergoing kidney transplants in exchange for dialysis, giving them a much better quality of life.
As an extension of his work, Dr. Alsaka is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He teaches courses in medicine and nephrology. Supporting his career, Dr. Alsaka is a member of the National Kidney Foundation.
Before Joining McLeod Health System, Dr. Alsaka proudly served one of the LifePoint Hospitals in Minden Louisiana as a director of Nephrology and Intensive care services 2010-2014.
Dr. Alsaka earned a Doctor of Medicine at Damascus University in Syria in 1999. He later completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Toledo, Ohio, where he served as the chief resident from 2004 to 2007 and a fellow in nephrology at the University of Toledo from 2008 to 2010. Dr. Alsaka currently holds a medical license in Texas and South Carolina and remains Diplomate by the American Board of Medical Subspecialties.
Recognizing his achievements, Dr. Alsaka was a four-time recipient of a Faculty of the Year Award by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He was also honored the Pillar of "the Best Educating Physician" by the McLeod Health System for 2020 and Top Provider Nationwide by the National Research Consultants (NRC) for 2019. During his studies, he was also recognized as Fellow of the Year by the University of Toledo in 2010. Dr. Alsaka attributes much of his success to the support of his community, and his patients.
