Moving to the U.S. from Egypt at the age of five, Mary Alexander-Basta is incredibly proud of her heritage and believes some of her recognition came by virtue of being Egyptian and being the first female Egyptian mayor in the United States. She studied mass communications at American University in Cairo, Egypt as well as hospitality management at Tennessee State University. An expert in her field, she began her career as a food and beverage manager for Palmer House Hilton, with which she worked during the early and mid-1990s. She subsequently worked as an events manager for The Standard Club, the general manger for the Chicago Yacht Club, marketing consultant for Work Right, and the regional sales and marketing manager for Clear Wimax.
Backed by years of considerable expertise, Ms. Alexander-Basta currently excels as a project consultant for Egypt Cancer Network 57357 and a project consultant for the Association of Friends of the National Cancer Institute.
Over the years, Ms. Alexander-Basta has also gained valuable professional expertise as a trustee for the Village of Bolingbrook, the president of Bloomfield West II Homeowners Association, and currently serves as the Mayor of the Village of Bolingbrook. For her outstanding body of work, she has been honored on several occasions, earning and awarded for coordinating groups for educational efficiency, the Bolingbrook Female Citizen of the Year Award, and Top 20 Global Women, for which she was nominated by Congressman Danny Davis.
Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. Alexander-Basta contributes to her community through the Saint Mark of Burr Ridge Church Community, the Bolingbrook STEM Association for Youth, which she founded, the Bolingbrook Soccer League, with which she serves as an executive board member, the John F. Kennedy PTA, and the Bolingbrook Plan Commission. In the near future, Ms. Alexander-Basta intends to experience the continued growth and success of her career.
