In recognition of his expertise, Dr. David K. Bakken qualified as a finalist for the Bank of America Scholarship for excellence in the music field
SAN JOSE, CA, March 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. David K. Bakken has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Dr. Bakken earned a Bachelor of Arts in music performance and percussion from San Jose State University in 1991. He attained a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from Concordia University-Portland in 2016. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Education from Concordia University Chicago in 2020. Dr. Bakken holds a Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development credential via the National Hispanic University, as well as a music credential from San Jose State University.
Dr. Bakken began his career as a musician as a front ensemble coordinator and arranger for the San Jose State University Spartan Marching Band in 1987. Following his graduation, he served as a music director for several schools in the Unified School District until 2010, when he returned to working with the San Jose State University Spartan Marching Band. He worked as the music director for Evergreen School District in 2009 and the executive director for David K. Bakken Creations in 2021. An expert in band, choral, orchestral, and percussion music, Dr. Bakken has also maintained involvement as the music director for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church since 1987.
As part of his dedication to his field, Dr. Bakken is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the California Music Educators Association, and has, at various times, been a member of the California Orchestra Directors Association and the California Band Directors Association. In addition to his primary career, he has authored his dissertation entitled "Precision, Sensitivity, Musicality: Creating Intrinsically Motivated Students Through Journaling." He is currently working on his first educational book. Dr. Bakken has also directed several performances from each of the middle schools in his local district, staging shows for local farmer's markets, Pops Concerts, District Honor Bands, and fundraisers.
In recognition of his expertise, Dr. Bakken qualified as a finalist for the Bank of America Scholarship for excellence in the music field and, while a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, is a two-time World Champion in Percussion Ensemble from Drum Corps International. He was initially motivated to pursue music education to help students and colleagues reach for greatness in their own right. Looking toward the future, Dr. Bakken plans to continue his music career long after he departs from the Evergreen School District and hopes to establish an online professorial service through which he can teach music education to current or aspiring educators.
