Prior to beginning his career, Dr. Lohrbauer served honorably in the United States Air Force. During his service, he was honored with the Air Force Systems Command Flight Surgeon of the Year. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1962 and a Doctor of Medicine from Duke University Medical Center in 1966. Dr. Lohrbauer then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center as well as a Cardiology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Lohrbauer is certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has medical licenses in North Carolina, Ohio and Florida. Dr. Lohrbauer has excelled as a cardiologist since 1966 and remains active as a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Lohrbauer was mentored by Dr. Eugene Stead and Dr. Eugene Lown, who were his professors while he was pursuing his education. He was inspired to enter the field of cardiology by his father and grandfather who were both physicians. He was impressed by the satisfaction that they gained from caring for people, and was himself enthusiastic about helping patients improve their conditions. He also was involved in training University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, Cardiology Fellows for a number of years.
