Dr. Martinez earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from St. Mary's University in 2005 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Medical School in 2011. He subsequently completed an internship and a residency in adult psychiatry as well as a fellowship in child and adult psychiatry at the UAB School of Medicine. He subsequently began his career as an assistant professor for UAB Medicine. Since 2019, Dr. Martinez has also been active as the Director for the Children's of Alabama Child Psychiatry Clinical Services.
In addition to his main career, Dr. Martinez authored "Pre-clinical Medical Students as the Primary Longitudinal Provider of Psychiatric Care in the Outpatient Setting: A Novel Training Model, Academic Psychiatry," published in 2017. He was further honored with Recognition for Establishing Good Relationship from Children's of Alabama Emergency Department, for the care and treatment of children suffering with mental health crisis in the emergency room.
As part of his dedication to his field, Dr. Martinez is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry. An expert in child and adolescent psychiatry, he has found success as the head of the emergency room for child psychiatry and runs the consultations. He treats children who arrive at the emergency room with an acute emotional crisis or acute behavioral disturbance, assessing for suicidality, aggression and homicidality. He has also worked with medical students at the nonprofit psychiatric clinic at UAB School of Medicine, Equal Access Birmingham Clinic.
