Since 2016, she has been a distinguished professor emerita for the University of California Santa Barbara.
SANTA BARBARA, CA, March 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Judith Lee Green, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Green earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and earned her elementary school teaching credential from the University of California Berkeley in 1963 and a Master of Arts in educational psychology from California State University, Northridge in 1970. She later graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in education from the University of California Berkeley in 1977. She began her career as a researcher and literacy educator as an Assistant Professor at Kent State University in 1975, and then moved as an Associate Professor to the University of Delaware in 1980. She became a professor for the Ohio State University in 1985. Beginning in 1990, she joined the faculty of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she and colleagues founded the center of literacy and inquiry in networking communities that engaged teachers in collaborative research in their classrooms from a discourse-based ethnographic research tradition. Since 2016, she has been a distinguished professor emerita for the University of California Santa Barbara, and has continued her research and writing with researchers nationally and internationally.
Dr. Green is an expert in educational anthropology and applied linguistics research in education. Over the course of her career, she has been active as the advisor for more than 60 doctoral students. She also gave keynote presentations during the most recent International Society of the Learning Sciences conferences. In addition to her career, she is served as the editor for Reading Research Quarterly for the International Literacy Association, and for three volumes of the Review of Research in Education for the American Educational Research Association. She also served as editor for five research books and a series of books on discourse analysis across disciplines (e.g., literacy, science education, medical discourse, gender and literacy-learning, among others).
During her time as a teacher, Dr. Green became one of the first state reading specialists in California. She was driven to join the research phase of her professional career when she witnessed the imposition of structuralist models and standardized assessments on education, which deprofessionalized teachers and removed support structures necessary for academic success of diverse learners. In recognition for her primary responsibilities as a professor, she was honored with a Mentoring Award from the academic senate of the University of California Santa Barbara. She was also awarded the position as a Sir Allen Sewell research scholar with Griffith University Australia and was selected as a Fulbright fellow in Brazil. She currently is building a new network for rethinking and reformulating ways that we study and assess educational processes in the coming years with diverse learners at different levels of schooling nationally and internationally.
