Earlier in her career, Ms. Shipe worked as a school nurse at Pomperaug Elementary School in 1997 and as a substitute nurse for Regional 15 School in 1998 and 1999. She then took a full time position as a school nurse at Gainfield Elementary School. Aside from her primary vocational pursuits, she has been active as the president of the Southbury Garden Club of Connecticut.
Ms. Shipe obtained an associate degree in (applied science) nursing with a minor in business administration from the Reading Area Community College.
