Driven by a passion for helping others and an interest in science, Dr. Bice earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Arizona State University and a Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University's School of Medicine. He subsequently completed a residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN followed by a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Soon thereafter, Dr. Bice began his career as a Clinical Instructor for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine, through which he also obtained a master's degree in clinical research.
Throughout his career thus far, Dr. Bice has gained valuable expertise as an assistant professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine. Drawing on his considerable breadth of knowledge, he currently excels as a tele-intensivist for Novant Health, through which he provides critical care coverage for seven hospitals within the Novant Health system. He continues to participate in research and to educate fellows and residents as an adjunct assistant professor for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Bice serves as Indonesia's country co-director for the American Thoracic Society MECOR (Methods in Epidemiologic, Clinical, and Operations Research) program, which provides education in clinical research methods across the globe.
In order to remain engaged with changes in the field, Dr. Bice is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society for Critical Care Medicine. Certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has also completed a GCP for Clinical Trials with Investigational Drugs, Biologics and Devices Course, as well as a GCP Course for Clinical Trials Involving Investigational Medical Devices. Alongside his primary responsibilities, Dr. Bice further dedicates himself to Novant Health as a member of the clinical ethics council.
For his professional achievements, Dr. Bice was recognized as the Physician of the Year by the North Carolina Society for Respiratory Care in 2017, which has been one of the highlights of his career thus far.
