ROBERTS, WI, March 25, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joel S. Stoeckeler, MD, MS, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Stoeckeler earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Experimental Psychology with a minor in Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1976. Some of his elective classes were in music and he studied classical guitar and played guitar with the University of Minnesota Jazz Ensemble. He went on to Medical School at the University of Minnesota and attained a Doctor of Medicine degree, graduating in 1985. He did an internship in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota and went on to complete a residency in Family Medicine at the same institution and is Board Certified in Family Practice. During med school and residency, he completed a Master's of Science in Health Informatics and did additional medical research, pursuing training in Electron Microscopy as well as co-authoring several metabolism related articles, one of which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1985, titled "Familial Pyrimidinemia and Pyrimidinuria Associated with Severe 5 Flourouracil Toxicity". The other was titled "Conjugated Versus Free Acidic Metabolites of Catecholamines in Random Urine Samples: Significance for Diagnosis of Neuroblastoma." These publications he recalls as some of the significant highlights of his medical career. Upon completing Family Practice Residency he became board certified in Family Medicine and joined a practice in Baldwin WI practicing full spectrum Family Practice for 26 years. This included Family Medicine Clinic, Obstetrics, 80,000 hours of ER coverage and Hospitalist coverage, and General Surgical assists. Continuing medical education and lifelong learning included training in Gastroenterology with 2000 Upper and Lower GI endoscopies performed as well as additional course work in Metabolism and Functional Medicine which he applied to his Family Practice. He also served as EMS Medical Director for Baldwin Ambulance Service for 18 years. Dr. Stoeckeler was greatly influenced by his colleague and mentor, Dr. Neal Melby, a general surgeon at the Baldwin Area Medical Center, who inspired him and motivated him throughout his career. Dr. Stoeckeler is semi-retired and currently practices emergency medicine as a locum tenens. Primary site of practice is Aspirus Stanley Hospital Emergency Department in Stanley, Wisconsin, a Level 3 Trauma Center. He maintains professional membership with American Academy of Family Practice and the American Board of Family Medicine.
In addition to his primary career path, he continued to enjoy music and contributed a total of nearly 3 years of community service with the Armed Forces Professional Entertainment Overseas. Participating in this program, he traveled extensively as a civilian, DOD contractor, between 1978 and 1996, producing and performing in USO and Morale Welfare and Recreation musical tours sponsored by the Department of Defense. Some of the Operations supported included: Desert Storm, Operation Deny Flight, Operation Safe Haven, Operation Uphold Democracy and Operation Joint Endeavor. This experience also provided great insights and conversations with the many veterans he cared for in his medical practice.
Dr. Stoeckeler is happily married. His immediate family includes his wife two children, a daughter and a son who is married with two children. Dr. Stoeckeler spends his free time enjoying family, the outdoors, hunting, hobby farming and playing piano, writing, and recording.
