NORTHPORT, AL, March 29, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Mwafaq Haji has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of the current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With several years of experience in the field of medical laboratory sciences to his credit, Dr. Haji currently serves Shelton State Community College as the medical laboratory technician program director and department chair. In this capacity, his responsibilities include teaching, administration, developing policies, procedures, laboratory management, and providing student access and success.
Dr. Haji's story began in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, where he completed the necessary coursework required for his intention of becoming a veterinarian, but soon discovered that he was more interested in laboratory medicine work. Shifting his focus, he received a Master of Science in medical biochemistry from the University of Duhok. Following his graduation, Dr. Haji served as a laboratory instructor at Akre Technology University, after which he extended his graduate education by studying abroad in the United States on a scholarship from the Kurdistan government of the Iraqi. He earned a Master of Science in nanotechnology sciences from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Doctorate in higher education leadership from Missouri Baptist University.
While attending college in the United States, Dr. Haji intended to work in his private medical laboratory in the Kurdistan region of Iraq after graduation. Unfortunately, after the Islamic State group took control of his home region, it was no longer safe for him and his family to return to his country, and he lost both his scholarship from the Kurdistan government of Iraq and his private business. Further complicating matters, his travel visa was initially suspended by the United States government. However, his American friends helped facilitate his stay in the country, and today, Dr. Haji considers his greatest achievement to be rebuilding his life and career in the United States.
In accounting for his success, Dr. Haji primarily attributes the freedom, democracy, and human rights afforded to him by life in America. He is driven by the opportunities the United States provides to him and other asylees, crediting his efforts to educate himself regarding American values in helping him excel in his career while adjusting to life in the United States.
