Devon A. Gilmore serves as a public safety officer, having joined the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety in South Carolina in 2017.
ORANGEBURG, SC, March 30, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Devon A. Gilmore has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Gilmore serves as a public safety officer, having joined the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety in South Carolina in 2017. In addition to keeping watch over the community, tracking criminal trends, fighting fires and supervising city animal control operations as a public servant, he also provides support to his fellow staff members, as well as community outreach. Mr. Gilmore aspires to continue to teach, mentor and encourage the community and new public safety officers that join the Department.
Inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement because of his foster father, Mr. Gilmore found a great deal of support and mentorship while growing up. Prior to acquiring his current position in 2017, he was employed by the Orangeburg County Detention Center. Mr. Gilmore also spent several years with Orangeburg County Animal Control and Shelter, during which time as a senior animal control officer, he educated the public on animal cruelty, and prosecuted offenders while saving the lives of animals.
To better support his community, Mr. Gilmore joined the Rotary Club in 2021. He also spends much of his free time visiting his local school district, where he provides mentorship to students. In years past, he also volunteered as a high school wrestling coach, during which time he proudly led his team to several tournament wins. Involved with various nonprofit organizations and other worthy causes, including the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and, Toys for Tots, Mr. Gilmore more recently secured enough resources for an apartment complex in his neighborhood, which will support the underserved.
Attributing his professional success to his ability to adapt and remain patient regardless of the situation, Mr. Gilmore has had to overcome many hurdles in life. Among them was the loss of his younger brother to murder. After getting the proper help so that he could cope with his loss, he was able to turn tragedy into something positive by focusing his energy on becoming more involved on a local level. In 2021, Mr. Gilmore was recognized as the Employee of the Year by the City of Orangeburg. Humbled and appreciative of the acknowledgement, he looks forward to many more years of success in the field.
