She made it her mission to create an inclusive environment for her students, and established a work program designed to prepare her pupils for future employment
TARRYTOWN, NY, March 31, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kimberly Callihan Kaczmarek has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With over 40 years of expertise in special education to her credit, Ms. Kaczmarek has achieved success as a teacher for those living with emotional and developmental disabilities. A lifelong interest in special education led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in education from Syracuse University. Following this accomplishment, Ms. Kaczmarek continued her studies at Fordham University, where she obtained a Master of Science in special education.
For 35 years, Ms. Kaczmarek served as a special education teacher at Sleepy Hollow High School. As an educator, she made it her mission to create an inclusive environment for her students, and established a work program designed to prepare her pupils for future employment. It was through this program that Ms. Kaczmarek was inspired to establish Sleepy Coffee, Too Inc., a nonprofit company that serves as an avenue to provide jobs to her former students.
In addition to her primary role as a teacher, Ms. Kaczmarek was also a Special Olympics coach for 40 years. In 2015, Ms. Kaczmarek was selected to be the head coach for a men's unified basketball team who competed at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, California. Among her career achievements, she is particularly proud that her team won the gold medal for the United States. Her dedication to her team notably garnered the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Special Olympics organization. Ms. Kaczmarek attributes much of her success to the support and encouragement of her late parents.
Now retired from her role as a teacher, Ms. Kaczmarek has shifted her focus to the founding of Sleepy Coffee, Too Inc., for which she plans fundraisers in order to render the organization self-sufficient. She also hopes to begin a mentoring program for young adults with special needs, similar to the successful program she created at the high school, which will provide much needed avenues for social recreational activities and community support.
