Inspired by the example of his grandfather, a metallurgist, who working with Alcoa, improved aluminum's properties for use in the aircraft industry and a member of Who's Who in the 1950's, as well as his father and uncle, who were both mechanical engineers that graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mr. Stephenson earned a bachelor's degree in geology from Clemson University during the 1970s. Following this accomplishment, he gained valuable expertise in his field as a mining engineer in Eastern Kentucky, in a mining and geological engineering Consulting firm, Tenneco Oil and Mineral Company in Houston, Texas and through architectural and engineering consulting firms in the U.S. Virgin Islands and on Maui, Hawaii.
Supported by his extensive experience, Mr. Stephenson excels today as the principal and owner of Rock Engineering, where he is responsible for project layout and design, as well as communicating with clients and the departments involved in each project. Throughout the course of his career, he has expanded upon his expertise by completing graduate coursework through Sul Ross State University, the University of Houston and the University of Tennessee. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Hawaii, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia, and is a certified professional geologist through the American Institute of Professional Geologists.
In order to remain aware of ongoing changes in the field, Mr. Stephenson aligns himself with the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Professional Geologists. Mr. Stephenson enjoys his work and approaches each project as a puzzle to be solved with its many interlocking and interdependent pieces. They are to be put together with each aspect working and enhancing the other, such as layout, drainage, utilities, functionality, people's comfort level, and symmetry with its neighbors and natural setting.
