Having harbored a lifelong love for music, Mr. Penfield decided to pursue a career in music education to share his passion for music with his students. He initially pursued a formal education at Florida State University, from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in choral music education in 2007. Mr. Penfield is currently pursuing a master's degree in music education, also at Florida State University.
Since 2007, Mr. Penfield has found success as a music educator and an arts educator for Orange County Public Schools. In this role, he has taught choir, vocal ensembles, musical theater, guitar, music technology, acting, and drama to children in grades six to eight. Moreover, Mr. Penfield has been active as a member of the American Choral Directors' Association and Florida Vocal Association, and serves as 2nd Vice President of Opera Orlando. He also professionally music directs local theatrical productions across central Florida.
Notably, the Florida Music Education Association has included Mr. Penfield in their Emerging Leaders and Summer Institute programs. He considers one of the highlights of his career as having initiated a musical theater outreach program with his school, through which he was able to provide affordable and quality theater experience to thousands of school-aged children in the community. In the future, Mr. Penfield would like to complete his master's degree and continue his work as a champion and advocate for music and the arts in Florida.
