LEXINGTON, SC, April 05, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Chariti Crum Spann has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With almost a decade of experience in her role, Ms. Spann was named in 2018 as a program coordinator for the South Carolina Department of Corrections, for which serves on behalf of the Division of Classification & Inmate Records at the Agency's headquarters. In this role, she is responsible for approving and coordinating statewide transfers between SC Department of Corrections and other county prison facilities. Initially employed by the Department of Corrections in 2013, Ms. Spann was originally hired as a suicide-prevention counselor for the men's unit at the Agency's psychiatric hospital shortly after earning a bachelor's degree. One year later, she was promoted to serve as a caseworker for the division of classification and inmate records, after which she advanced again to become a case manager with the Kirkland Correctional Institution, which is a level three prison for male inmates. In her capacity within the prison setting, Ms. Spann interviewed new intake inmates as they entered the facility and ensured they were classified and assigned properly, based on their medical, mental health, and educational assessments. As a caseworker, she also conducted yearly reviews on the classification status of a caseload of 250 offenders, as well as reviewed inmate records for classification compliance.
Following her father's example, who also worked for the Department of Corrections and inspired Ms. Spann to pursue a similar career, she is continuously grateful for the opportunity. Looking toward the future, she hopes to one day serve as the division director for the division of classification and inmate records, which would give her the opportunity to ensure that the policies are fair and consistent for all employees and inmates, pertaining to classification. Believing in leading by example, she thrives on teamwork and strives to eschew an authoritative approach to her work. Ms. Spann also aspires to continue deepening her education on the subject of forensic psychology.
Professionally, she is a member of the South Carolina Correctional Association, where she has been instrumental in helping to raise funds for various events and causes. Ms. Spann is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
An alumnus of Morris College, Ms. Spann attained a Bachelor of Arts in sociology, magna cum laude. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in psychology at Northcentral University, with expectations of graduating in 2022. In light of her achievements, Ms. Spann was named as the Employee of the Month. She was also crowned as Miss Morris College.
