As the owner and operator, Mr. Winterman oversees all of the house service, administrative responsibilities and hospitality while Mr. Cipollone manages the kitchen. Though opening the doors to Francie during the pandemic was very challenging, Mr. Winterman was featured in a September 2020 article in Financial Times, titled "How to Start a Restaurant During the Pandemic." Fortunate to have worked alongside three amazing chefs during his career, he has gained tremendous insight and perspective about hospitality, food, and the restaurant industry as a whole. Mr. Winterman looks forward to continued success and anticipates opening an upscale bar and lounge in the near future.
Mr. Winterman began his career in 1994 as a dining room manager at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago. He then served for several years as a maître d'hotel at Gary Danko in San Francisco and Restaurant Daniel and Café Boulud in New York City. From 2014 to 2020, Mr. Winterman established the award-winning restaurant, Bâtard, as part of the Myriad Restaurant Group.
Dedicated to his local community, Mr. Winterman has supported Meals on Wheels in his spare time. He has been affiliated with the Ski-Club Arlberg in Austria since 2015. An alumnus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Mr. Winterman graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and history in 1993.
Mr. Winterman has received rave reviews in The New York Times and the New York Magazine. Furthermore, Francie was recognized with a Michelin Star in 2021. Mr. Winterman's former restaurant, Bâtard, was also recognized with a Michelin Star in 2014 and as Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 2015.
