PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA, April 07, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard D. Sudduth has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Sudduth, received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska, an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Macromolecular Science from Case Western Reserve University. Over the years he worked for several companies including Brunswick Defense in Lincoln as well as Boeing where he worked on Materials for the Advanced Tactical Fighter and the Space Station. He taught at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has over 100 technical publications and presentations. Most of these articles have involved the optimization of the physical properties of polymer composites and coatings including articles addressing viscosity, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, tensile strength, modulus, creep, stress relaxation and impact. These articles have primarily involved the theoretical and practical application of particulates as used in the blending and compounding of polymer composites and coatings to achieve certain desired physical properties. Additional articles have addressed various curing approaches to optimize the physical properties of composites and coatings as well. He was a partial owner of a coatings company. Dr. Sudduth is currently President and Chief Scientist of Materials Research & Processing, LLC at which he specializes in applications that involve particulates and particulate composites.
Dr. Sudduth was initially recognized for his article that successfully predicted the maximum impact as a result of optimizing particle size, particle size distribution and grafting onto rubber particles in rubber modified polymers. Dr. Sudduth published a series of articles describing a generalized viscosity model that has been found to successfully characterize a broad range of viscosity applications from solutions to suspensions as a result of a simple change in the interaction coefficient. The success of this viscosity model for optimizing and predicting the viscosity of particulates in suspensions has received significant worldwide recognition. The model characterizing the packing fraction that was generated as part of the development of this viscosity model has been found to apply to a broad range of applications other than viscosity. Dr. Sudduth also published an article for optimizing the viscosity of suspensions with different shaped particulates that received a special recognition award from his publisher.
Dr. Sudduth published a series of articles that were the first to successfully relate the mechanical properties of creep, stress relaxation and constant strain rate using the same model for polymers and polymer composites. He also gave an invited presentation on this subject at a convention in China.
Dr. Sudduth gave an invited lecture in Ukraine for his successful percolation threshold model for predicting the sharp increase in conductivity for carbon particles as a function of concentration in polymer composites. This percolation threshold model was also shown in a separate publication to successfully predict the onset and maximum for the Corona Virus epidemic.
Notably, Dr. Sudduth has worked on several models that have been used worldwide. Dr Sudduth is currently involved in implementing a new and improved approach that he developed to model and effectively apply aggregates in asphalt for highways. In this regard, he acted as the principal investigator for "The Evaluation of Polymer Modified Asphalt for Potential Application on Mississippi State Highways: Study #123."
Looking toward the future, he aspires to continue his research in modeling the physical properties of particulate composites for all types of applications while continuing to retain a special interest in applications involving polymers and polymer composites.
