Hired by the Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas, in 1962, she spent nearly 60 years in her role before stepping down to a part-time position in 2019. In the laboratory, Ms. Johnson is responsible for conducting accurate tests and reports regarding the heart, kidneys, liver and other organs of patients. In addition to the scientific aspects of her job, she oversees the effective maintenance of all relevant equipment.
Ms. Johnson previously spent several years as a laboratory technician and medical technician at the hospital. She was promoted to the role of a clinical laboratory scientist. With no intention of fully retiring, Ms. Johnson has garnered the affection of her peers as dedicated, empathetic and honest people.
Long dedicated to her local community, Ms. Johnson has served as a secretary at her church and has volunteered her time with a local senior citizens' organization to help distribute food to the needy several times per month. To support her career, she has maintained membership with the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
Ms. Johnson graduated from high school in 1955. It was during these formative years that she developed an interest in laboratory technology. Accepted to Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, Ms. Johnson went on to receive a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1959. Since embarking upon her professional journey, she has received numerous accolades, including a Golden Service Award from the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science in 2010, which was a huge honor. She was also recognized with an award from the Midland Memorial Hospital in 2021 for her 60 years of service.
