Inspired by multidisciplinary approaches to patient care, Dr. Jafri decided to pursue a career in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Pain Management. After earning an MD/MBBS from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Pakistan, he completed an internship through Frankford Healthcare System (now under Jefferson Health) and residencies through Rutgers- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School / John F. Kennedy Medical Center/ John Rehabilitation Institute. Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in medicine and education as a clinical professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation both at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and maintains a dual clinical professorship in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Anesthesiology at Rutgers- Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey.
Licensed to practice in New Jersey, Dr. Jafri also worked as the founding medical director of inpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services for John F. Kennedy Medical Center, the founding program director of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's Pain Medicine fellowship and the medical director of the pain management program at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. Drawing on years of expertise, Dr. Jafri continues as the medical director of the Center for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute.
In order to facilitate lifelong learning in medicine, Dr. Jafri has been a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Due to his considerable knowledge, he has contributed to publications such as "Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review" and "Welner's Guide to the Care of Women with Disabilities." For his professional achievements, he was recognized among the Faculty of the Year by Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. In a career that has been filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of teaching more than 150 medical residents in physical medicine and rehabilitation and 12 fellows in pain management. In the community, he is involved as chairman of the board of Muslim Foundation, Inc., vice chairman of the board of trustees at Sadiq School, and director of Ja'faria School of Central Jersey. He is also involved in the American Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America New Jersey Chapter as a part of the board of trustees, and has participated in multiple philanthropic efforts, administrative roles, and community service both nationally and internationally. Within the coming years, Dr. Jafri intends to dedicate more time to his family, his humanitarian and philanthropist work, establishing free clinics to help people that need it the most, and continuing to be involved academically.
