Judge David LaBarre is a co-founder of his local Guardian Ad Litem system, for which he is the director of Wake County.

Recognized for more than five decades of contributions to the field of legal service, Mr. LaBarre has worked as an e-discovery document reviewer for Hire Counsel, a legal staffing agency, since 2019. Additionally, he has maintained involvement as the manager of Mediation & Arbitration LLC since 2002. A former judge, Mr. LaBarre distinguished himself in positions of high legal authority within the state of North Carolina, during which time he served on the bench as a district court judge and a superior court judge from 1978 to 2002, after which he functioned as an emergency judge from 2002 to 2017. Throughout the course of his career in this capacity, he has held a particular specialization in family law and cases involving domestic violence. To this end, he has drawn particular praise for his efforts to serve as an advocate on behalf of women who suffer abuse at the hands of their spouses.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. LaBarre studied business administration and management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill), from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1968. Following this accomplishment, he graduated from the aforementioned institution with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1972. Throughout the course of his education at UNC-Chapel Hill, Mr. LaBarre rose to become the attorney-general of the student body, which steered him toward his initial interest in legal service, and served as the president of his local chapter of the Phi Lambda Phi Fraternity. Additionally, he was recognized as a solicitor of the Law School Honor Court.
After concluding his academic endeavors, Mr. LaBarre maintained involvement with Murdock, Jarvis, Johnson & LaBarre from 1972 to 1978 and served as an assistant district attorney for North Carolina District 14. Over the span of his subsequent career, he joined such organizations as the North Carolina Academy of Superior Court Mediators, the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, the Durham County Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association. Additionally, in honor of his achievements, Mr. LaBarre was named the Trial Judge of the Year by the North Carolina Advocates for Justice in 1999.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. LaBarre has served on the board of directors for the Child Advocacy Commission of Durham and previously sat on the board of directors for his local chapter of the YMCA. Additionally, he is a co-founder of his local Guardian Ad Litem system, for which he is the director of Wake County. Mr. LaBarre has also contributed as a rider with the Harley Owners Group and participated in charitable rides that have assisted such worthy organizations as the Kids with Cancer Society and the Salvation Army.
