HORSESHOE BAY, TX, April 15, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Wright, MNZM, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Wright celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Wright is a renowned gymnastics coach, educator and co-founder of Masters of Sport. Established in 2015, Masters of Sport offers an array of educational materials for coaches all over the globe. Through her resources, coaches gain better insight into the fundamental training concepts, expectations and skills necessary to perform their jobs well and move forward in their careers. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Ms. Wright frequently travels to different parts of the world to promote her business and provide continuous education to coaches.
Following her mother's example, who was recognized as a top New Zealand gymnastics coach, and nine times New Zealand Diving champion, Ms. Wright began training competitively in gymnastics at the age of 11, and started coaching a small group of girls at age 15, while still competing herself. Nine years later she took over the Christchurch School of Gymnastics in New Zealand in 1970. She continued coaching in New Zealand until 1975 during which time some of her athletes competed at various international competitions including World Championships. In 1975 Ms. Wright moved to the USA where she coached until retiring from gym ownership in 2014. Under her tutelage, more than 132 athletes have received college scholarships and 11 of her athletes have gone on to become USA, (8), Canadian (2), and NZ (1) Olympians. More than just a coach, Ms. Wright was a mentor for many of these girls.
Over the years, Ms. Wright has authored several gymnastics books and manuals. Her newest book, titled The Tapestry of Gymnastics – Lessons Learned and Lessons Earned, will explore various topics, including motivation, resilience, adversity, and grit and will address inherent challenges that coaches face, including maladaptive perfectionism, goal setting, journaling and mental toughness to help both coaches and athletes reach their potential in their roles.
An advocate of contributing on behalf of the gymnastics community, Ms. Wright spent a decade as a volunteer coach and choreographer for the University of Utah. She has also created a program at Olympus Gymnastics, where a class for special needs children was implemented free of charge to all children in the community with special needs. The upper level students at Olympus coached this class as a community service. Outside of her coaching contributions, Ms. Wright has been involved with a local animal shelter where she assists with dog adoptions.
Ms. Wright studied Journalism in college which has helped immensely with the writing of her book. In 2018, she received the New Zealand Order of Merit from the Queen of England for meritorious service in her field. This annual award was also awarded to both of her parents, one of her brothers, a cousin and her great grandfather. In 2020, Ms. Wright was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and has been recognized multiple times as a nominee for Coach of the Year and Choreographer of the Year. She has also received the USA Gymnastics Master of Sports award for her gymnastics contributions as the Olympic level.
