After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in English and sociology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1968, she earned a Master of Arts in secondary education from San Jose State University. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Ms. Tavrow thrived as an independent fundraising consultant for the San Francisco Symphony, the American Technion Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, and other nonprofits.
In 2003, Ms. Tavrow co-founded Tavrow|Lund Consulting LLC, where she found tremendous success for more than a decade. During this period, she also developed her expertise in facilitating capital and endowment campaigns for a wide range of sectors such as education, medicine, and the arts. Since the formation of BJ Tavrow Consulting in 2015, Ms. Tavrow has continued to thrive while providing strategic planning, feasibility studies and board development services for a host of well-established organizations, such as Let's Get Ready, N.Y., the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, San Francisco, and Reach Out and Read, several museums, and medical research funding at Universities and Research Institutes.
Ms. Tavrow attributes a great deal of her success to her personal connection to her clients' goals. She is particularly proud to have played a direct role in the advancement of medical research in the area of immunology. Since Ms. Tavrow also harbors a deep passion for education, she intends to work with more organizations that are focused on fostering educational equity and increasing educational opportunities for underserved populations.
