BOWIE, MD, April 18, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rory Palmieri has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A self-employed writer and translator based in Bowie, Maryland, Dr. Palmieri has accrued more than two decades of experience in his field. Talented in the fields of language, literature, and film, he previously served as a translator and reporter for the U.S. Department of Defense from 1985 to 1999, during which time he learned seven new languages, all but two on his own, and worked a total of nine languages altogether. Most impressively, he has since expanded his repertoire to 17 languages. While working in this field, he often coordinated with other federal government departments, the White House, and various intelligence agencies. Spending time at top-secret locations in the U.S. and abroad, he frequently scanned foreign-language materials to find information that would be of interest to government officials and then wrote reports based on the information. Afforded the opportunity to work on many different projects, he grew tremendously in his role as a translator and reporter.
Prior to his full-time commitment to the U.S. Government, Dr. Palmieri taught freshman writing, literature, and film courses at his alma mater, Brown University. He also worked briefly as a manager at the Acme Court Reporting Company in Washington, D.C. After he left government service, he worked for a time as a translator for an independent contractor, and later assisted in the production of audio books for the blind, a Library of Congress project, at Potomac Talking Book Services in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2002, Dr. Palmieri scaled back much of his work in order to focus on scholarly studies in his three fields of interest.
Dr. Palmieri began learning French in elementary school, he added German in high school, and between undergraduate and graduate school he studied Latin. After graduating from Harvard University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in English, he pursued his academic efforts further at Brown University, from which he received a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in English (specializing in American literature and film, with a dissertation on film director Sam Peckinpah) in 1981 and 1984, respectively. Well qualified in the foreign-language field, he holds expert certifications in French, German, Modern Greek, Bulgarian, and Serbo-Croatian. Additionally, to support his career, Dr. Palmieri was for several years a member of the Modern Language Association.
Passionate about filmmaking in high school, Dr. Palmieri made his first film in his senior year. His 15-minute horror film, "Redneck," was broadcast on a local television station in Washington, D.C. He was also interviewed about the film on the program in September 1972, and shortly thereafter he wrote an article about the film, which was featured in Cinemagic magazine. Years later, the amateur filmmaker co-produced a feature-length documentary, The Poets from Planet X, and a short comedy entitled "Dick's Last Shoot." Dr. Palmieri also secured roles as an extra on several Hollywood productions. Presently, Dr. Palmieri is writing the first English-language book (based on research in over half a dozen languages, including two new ones, Hungarian and Romanian) about a Hungarian film director who had a major impact on world cinema. The working title is Power and Revolution: Surveying and Tracking the Films of Miklós Jancsó.
