Dr. Dawson committed her career to helping African American children succeed.
OAKLAND, CA, April 19, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Renée A. Dawson, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than four decades of experience in education to her credit, Dr. Dawson committed her career to helping African American children succeed. To prepare for her professional journey, she earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California Riverside in 1972 and went on to attain a Master of Social Work in social welfare from the University of California Berkeley. She subsequently earned a Master of Science, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Human and Organizational Systems at Fielding Graduate University, completing her doctoral program in 2008. For her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Dawson studied the best practices for preventing disproportionate representation of African American children in special education.
Out of a love for children and a passion for helping them learn, Dr. Dawson served as a school psychologist working with students living with special needs, for which she was awarded the Outstanding School Psychologist Award for the Region by the California Association of School Psychologists in 2006. She also worked with the California State Department of Education. During her tenure, she was honorably mentioned by the California Department of Education as one of the African American Women of Distinction in 2012. Dr. Dawson was also the assistant director of the California Department of Northern Diagnostic Center for two decades. She has functioned as an adjunct professor for Holy Names University for five years, supervising new teachers in their school site placements.
As part of her teaching career, Dr. Dawson has also contributed to various academic works, including a chapter in "Nurturing and Working in Partnership with Parents During Transition" in 2000 and "Transference of Power Through the Process of Empowerment," which published in the Journal of the California Alliance for the Mentally Ill in 1999. Additionally, as part of her dedication to her field, she is a past member of the Association of Black Psychologists, the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay and the California Association of School Psychologists.
Driven by a desire for justice and fairness, Dr. Dawson became involved in her profession to help correct various injustices routinely faced by children of color and prepare them with enhancing and learning experiences. Looking toward the future, she plans to continue her work regarding these complex issues.
