During the 1990s, Dr. Haywood began her career in the healthcare industry as a staff nurse and midwife for the Ministry of Health at St. George's, Grenada. While active with the Ministry of Health, she developed care plans, individualized birth plans for thousands of expectant mothers and assisted during obstetrical surgical procedures, normal labor, breech presentation of infants and twin pregnancies. Drawing on her considerable expertise, Dr. Haywood excels today as the Director of Adult Medicine and Staff Physician for the Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida.
In her work with Family Health Centers, Dr. Haywood conducts quarterly peer review evaluations, delivers outstanding medical care to thousands of patients including Medicare, Medicaid and uninsured patients and collaborates with a range of healthcare professionals. Alongside her work with Family Health Centers, she serves as a credentialing committee voting member for a Provider Managed Health Plan and as a member of the Physician Advisory Committee for a physician led, locally owned regional network, based in South Florida, focusing on aligning primary care, specialists, healthcare systems, behavioral health and other key community holders in value-based care.
An expert in her field, Dr. Haywood holds an Associate's Science in Nursing, and Degree in Midwifery from the Grenada School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences and a Doctor of Medicine from St. George's University; and completed her Residency in Family Medicine from JFK Medical Center, Edison, New Jersey. Additionally, she attained a Master of Business Administration in Health Management and Policy from the University of Miami's Herbert Business School. Dr. Haywood also holds Certifications in Health Care Quality Management, Physician Advisor, Case Management, Patient Safety, Risk Management and more.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Haywood aligns herself with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review of Physicians, the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Health Council, the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and the Government Blockchain Association. Outside of her primary career endeavors, she has dedicated herself to others through contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Haywood is most proud to be the Physician Lead of the team to have been selected as one of five in a total of 1,400 institutions to receive a $200,000 grant for the Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida. She was also gratified to serve as the lead for the National Target Blood Pressure Control and the Cholesterol Initiative for the American Heart Association at Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida. Furthermore, Dr. Haywood has been recognized with Certificates of Achievement through the Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, the Gold Humanism Honor Society via St. George's University, and a Physician's Recognition Award on continuing medical education through the American Medical Association.
