After more than four decades in her field, Dr. McManus retired from Caritas Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in 2021.

After more than four decades in her field, Dr. McManus retired from Caritas Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in 2021. During her nearly 20-year tenure at the Center, she served as a respected critical care pharmacist. As part of her responsibilities, Dr. McManus specialized in medicine, surgery, cardiology and emergency medicine, and was a member of the intensive care unit executive committee. Located in Boston, the health care organization is affiliated with Tufts School of Medicine and has been recognized as of the most respected teaching hospitals in the area.
Dr. McManus previously worked for several other leading organizations, including the Boston VA Healthcare System, a teaching hospital affiliated with Boston University. In addition to serving as a critical care pharmacist, she was active on several committees and was a preceptor for pharmacy residents and students. Dr. McManus also garnered two years of relevant experience at Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center and School of Pharmacy at Northeastern University in Boston as a clinical pharmacy specialist in neonatology.
Furthermore, she enjoyed a five-year commitment at the New England Medical Center in Boston as a clinical pharmacy specialist in the pediatric intensive care unit, the neonatal intensive care units and the general pediatric wards. Outside the U.S., Dr. McManus was further associated with Khalid University Hospital in Saudi Arabia as a clinical pharmacy specialist, where she helped implement clinical pharmacy services for its pediatric intensive care unit and general pediatrics.
Equally passionate in her service as an educator, Dr. McManus began teaching in the school of pharmacy at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a clinical assistant professor in 1983. Over the years, she earned roles at Tufts University School of Medicine, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and, more recently, at the Bouve School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Northeastern University between 1998 and 2021. Dr. McManus' two-decade tenure included a teaching appointment as a clinical assistant professor and preceptor for Doctor of Pharmacy students that were studying critical care.
As a respected researcher in her field, Dr. McManus completed numerous poster projects and contributed scholarly articles to several prominent professional journals. She has also given several professional talks at area hospitals and before various industry-related organizations. Dr. McManus continues to lecture to the pharmacy residency program in retirement, including on vaccine immunology. Likewise dedicated to climate change advocacy, she has also begun spending more time outdoors studying and promoting wildlife conservation.
Dr. McManus earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy at the University College Dublin in 1977, followed by a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota in 1981. She subsequently completed a postdoctoral residency at the University of California San Francisco in 1982. Well qualified in her field, Dr. McManus maintains a pharmacy license in Nevada and Massachusetts.
As part of her professional endeavors, Dr. McManus is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. The organization recognized her with a Presidential Citation in 2016 for her work in the field. Dr. McManus also received a McKesson Pharmacy Star Achievement Award as the Pharmacy Professional of the Year in 1998.
