Dr. Tucker has also devoted much of her career to the field of social work.

Drawing upon nearly three decades of professional experience in the fields of counseling and education, Dr. Tucker has distinguished herself through her work with Sul Ross State University (SRSU). Bearing a particular focus on the subject of education in counseling, she initially joined the faculty staff in 2005 as an adjunct professor and later advanced to serve as a coordinator and chairperson for the department of education. Achieving tenure as an associate professor in 2017, she was subsequently named the dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies in 2019. Throughout the course of her journey in the field of education, Dr. Tucker has served on a number of committees at SRSU and previously earned distinction as a classroom teacher on behalf of the Alpine Christian School in Alpine, Texas, and as an adjunct professor of psychology at Midland College.
Outside of her work in education, Dr. Tucker has devoted much of her career to the field of social work, beginning in 1993 as a disabilities manager for Wilkin County Family Services in Breckenridge, Minnesota. After relocating to Alpine, Texas, she served as a coordinator for several state-operated housing and employment programs, after which she joined the Permian Basin Community Center for Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services as a frontier division coordinator. After pivoting toward a career in academia, Dr. Tucker continued to serve as a contract social worker for a number of organizations throughout Alpine from 2004 to 2016.
Well regarded for her scholarly output, Dr. Tucker has contributed her research findings in presentations at conferences and symposia, including the Science of Literacy and Learning Conference in 2019, the Sul Ross Retreat for Counselors and the Second Century Education Summit, among many others. She has also served as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Homosexuality, a review member for several exam committees of the Texas Education Agency and a participant in various study groups. To support her research, Dr. Tucker has been bestowed with various grants, including from the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans program.
Dr. Tucker first sought a formal education at Moorhead State University, from which she received a Bachelor of Social Work in 1993. Following this accomplishment, she attended SRSU and graduated with a Master of Education in counseling in 1997. Years later, heeding the recommendations of Dr. Chet Sample, the previous dean of what is now the College of Education and Professional Studies at SRSU, Dr. Tucker pursued a doctorate at Capella University. She subsequently attained a Doctor of Philosophy in educational psychology in 2012.
As a commitment to her field, Dr. Tucker maintains affiliation with such organizations as the Texas Association for Colleges for Teacher Education, the National Association of Social Work, the American Counseling Association, the Texas Council of Deans and the honorable society of Psi Chi. Outside of her primary vocation, she also volunteers at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, where she hosts an annual presentation on child safety.
In accounting for her success, Dr. Tucker credits the influence of her supportive husband, children and colleagues, all of whom have supported her career endeavors. She also benefited from the tutelage of several important mentors, including Dr. Dan Logan. Dr. Tucker looks forward to furthering her career in academia.
