Driven by his personal motto, "Nothing is unachievable," Mr. Marks began his career in the U.S. Navy, where he served as an Engineering Officer of the Watch, a position rarely held by English sailors between 1993 and 1997. Following this period, he received a Bachelor of Science in nuclear science from Thomas Edison State University and joined Exelon Nuclear. Between 1999 and his retirement from the company in 2021, he gained valuable professional expertise as a senior reactor operator, senior operations training instructor and senior workweek manager. Although retired from his work with Exelon, Mr. Marks still serves as member of the BWR Owners Group. He also filled the Operations Manager position during plant refueling periods.
A 13-year submarine veteran, Mr. Marks also boasts a successful, 22-year career as a senior reactor licensed supervisor. In light of his outstanding body of work, he has been honored many times, earning an Expert Marksmanship Award, a Distinguished Service Award, the Sailor of the Year Award and a Navy Achievement Medal through the United States Navy, through which he was named a master training specialist. Mr. Marks is one of only 5,000 senior nuclear reactor operators in the world.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Marks is most proud to have served as the conduit through which others could achieve their dreams. Looking toward the future, Mr. Marks plans to enjoy his retirement by reading, cooking, and traveling, especially to warm weather destinations.
