Mr. Weber retired in 2006, having garnered more than 50 years of professional excellence as an architect. Forming his own private practice in Northbrook, Illinois, in 1984, he later relocated his office to Northfield, Illinois, in 1994. A dedicated business professional, Mr. Weber gained insight and expertise from mentors and fellow architects, contractors, masons and carpenters with the objective of creating structures that would not only be functional but also comfortable, attractive and structurally sound, and serve the people who used and lived in them.
Before following the example of his Architect father and Architect grandfather, Mr. Weber began his career in 1952 as a field engineer for United Construction Company in Riverdale, North Dakota and in Greenup and Ashland, Kentucky from 1956 to 1958. By 1958, he had joined his father's firm, Bertram A. Weber Architect, in Chicago, where he spent the next 15 years learning from and working with him. In 1973, the two formed Weber & Weber Architects in Chicago. Mr. Weber's portfolio of works over the years included the design and renovation of numerous medical and office buildings, including medical office buildings at Bi-County Hospital in Warren, Michigan, and the Detroit Osteopathic Hospital. He also designed numerous churches, banks, country clubs and other recreational facilities, apartment buildings and many residences.
Aside from his responsibilities at the office, Mr. Weber notably served as a delegate to and chairman of the Illinois Architects-Engineer Council between 1976 and 1987 and from 1981 until 1982, respectively. He was also a member of the Illinois Architect Act Revision Task Force from 1982 to 1989.
Mr. Weber has played an integral role in his local community as well. To wit, he was a member of the Winnetka Forestry Commission, the Winnetka Design Review Board, and the Winnetka Ad Hoc Zoning Committee, and served as the chairperson of the Winnetka Zoning Board of Appeals. He was also active as the chair of the Winnetka Community House building committee and as a member of the Winnetka Community Caucus. Mr. Weber is a former Deacon and Elder of Winnetka Presbyterian Church where he remains active. He is also a member and former board member of the Old Willow Club, where he served as president in 1983. As a military veteran, he also enjoys membership with the American Legion, the Navy League of the U.S. and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
An alumnus of the prestigious Princeton University in New Jersey, Mr. Weber received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 1952. He subsequently served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956, serving on the USS Tingey (DD-539), a destroyer in the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Task Force 77 and Formosa Patrol post Korean War. Several years later, Mr. Weber completed postgraduate coursework at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1959. Well qualified in his field, he is a licensed architect and interior designer in Illinois and a licensed energy professional in the City of Chicago.
Aligning himself as a member of multiple industry-related organizations in support of his career, Mr. Weber is notably a past president and former board director of the Builders Club of Chicago and of the Architects Club of Chicago, and an elected fellow and past president of the Illinois Society of Architects as well as a fellow and member of the Association of Licensed Architects. Mr. Weber is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and, among others, the Construction Specifications Institute.
