MONTGOMERY, PA, May 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Colleen Collins Sheptock, DEd, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in grief counseling, Dr. Sheptock has served as a dedicated school counselor for more than 40 years. To prepare for her career, she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and psychology from Slippery Rock University in 1974 and a Master of Education in school psychology and guidance counseling from Edinboro University. Following this accomplishment, she attained a Doctor of Education in supervision of education, counseling and psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Though she originally intended to become a business professional or physician, she cultivated a passion for the field of special education after discovering her own learning disability.
Dr. Sheptock pursued a specialty in counseling children in death and dying because there was no guidance at the time for them, despite a wealth of information for adults. At the time, while creating her research paper on the topic, she noticed that many parents did not feel comfortable explaining death to their children and opted to shelter them from the experience. Driven to develop methods for explaining such a difficult subject to children, Dr. Sheptock began her career as a school counselor in 1980, and remained active in the field for more than two decades. During this period, she distinguished herself as the first elementary guidance counselor in her county, for which she was nominated for a Williamsport's First Award.
After working as an elementary school teacher for the Pittsburgh school district for eight years, Dr. Sheptock began her current role as a counselor psychologist for the Muncy School District. Dedicated to treating children with the same respect as one would an adult, she has helped numerous children overcome behavioral issues and learning disabilities. In this capacity, Dr. Sheptock served as a liaison between parents, teachers and children to facilitate their emotional health and academic success.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Sheptock plans to continue teaching and counseling. She is also pursuing other fields of interest. In accounting for her success, Dr. Sheptock credits the enjoyment she draws from helping others heal, as well as teaching them how to leverage the power of their own minds and bodies in order to recover from illness.
